San Lio church
Supposedly the grave of Canaletto
San Lio church, close to campo san Bortolo in Saint Mark district, is dedicated to Pope Leo X, who had supported the independence of Venice churches. Today's church was built in XVI century on an older one.
The Venetian painter Canaletto, who was living nearby, is believed to have been baptised and buried in this church.
Although a small and hidden church, it houses artworks by some of the most important Venetian painters, such as Tiepolo, Palma il Giovane and Titian.
