An hidden church
Santa Sofia church in Venice is located on Strada Nuova (Cannaregio district), just in front of the traghetto (the gondola ferry) of Santa Sofia, on the Grand Canal.
The features of the today's church are mostly due to the XVII century rebuilding by Gaspari. Suppressed in 1810, the church was later reopened, but many of the interior artworks had been lost during those years of closing.
The most curious thing about Santa Sofia church is the fact that its facade is completely covered by houses (at least since the XV century), so the entrance is through a very common door which belongs to one of them.
