High Tide in Venice
Attraction or Uncertainty?
For most tourists, Venice with a high tide is an exciting experience, for the Venetians however, it is a burden they would rather not have to shoulder.
The high water level is a phenomenon brought about by high tide that particularly in winter sumerge the lower parts of the city. Sometimes it is only a few centimetres that wet the buldings' foundations and the surrounding streets: greater problems arise when the moon along with atmosperic preassure and aither the southerly wind (Sirocco) or the cold northerly wind (Bora) causes the high tide to invade entire parts of the city.
So what we can do if we are visiting the city in this moment? At the various public transport (steamboat and motorboat) stops throughtout the city, there are maps that indicate the pedestrian routes that are elevated and not affected by the floods, therefore connectiong seemingly inacessible parts of Venice.
So actually, all that is needed to maintain an unhindered visiting schedule is a pair of rubber boots that are readily available in various shop around Venice. This will avoid you getting wet feet and becoming disgruntled by an unwanted cold.
