Carmini church

The church of the Carmelites order

Carmini church of Venice was built in early XVI century, however a first religious building existed here since XIII century, founded by the Carmelites order. Carmini church worked together with the Scuola Grande dei Carmini just beside it, both belonging to Carmelites and therefore dedicated to the worship of the Virgin of Mount Carmel in Palestine (Santa Maria del Carmelo).
The brick facade became the main one after a rebuilding: previously, Carmini church facade was on the today's side entrance (still possible to admire its XIV century entrance).
The history of the Carmelites order is told by a few paintings inside; to remark is also the ceiling, partially frescoed by Ricci.
On the right side of the church, stands the cloister of the former Carmelites convent, today an art high school.

Closest vaporetto stop is Ca' Rezzonico, in the sestiere of Dorsoduro.
