A controversial order
Gesuiti church of Venice is actually consacrated to Santa Maria Assunta (Our Lady of the Assumption), represented on the facade.
Built by the order of Crucifers (there is still the oratorio dei Crociferi in front of it), the church was restored many times, last time by the Jesuits at the beginning of the XVIII century. The Jesuits were never popular in Venice, and this might explain the relatively remote location chosen for this church and even, according to some, the almost Baroque decorations, meant to impress viewers - like the inlaid coloured marbles which almost look like fabrics.
The church is close to Fondamenta Nuove on the Northern side of lagoon; water bus stop Fondamente Nuove.
