Vivaldi's church
Santa Maria della Pietà church, simply known as La Pietà, is famous for having been used by the girls from the annexed orphanage (Ospedale della Pietà), to whom composer Vivaldi taught music.
Vivaldi was working here as a teacher, and also composed much of his music here. Girls from la Pietà who did not get married were often staying here until a late age, working as musicians or music teachers.
La Pietà church is designed for acoustics: it is oval-shaped, as the girls performed not only music but also choral singing. The position of the choirs and the presence of a vestibule reveal its ancient function, too.
