San Francesco di Paola church
A painted clock
San Francesco di Paola church of Venice was founded in XVI century by the Friars Minor, on the ground which previously hosted a convent and church dedicated to Saint Bartholomew. The monastery was suppressed and demolished in XIX century, and a school was built on its place.
Paintings by Palma il Giovane and Contarini are in the inside, and a barco (covered nuns' choir).
On the Classical style facade, a painted clock drives viewers' attention- some say it indicates the hour when the saint died (9.30). The motto of the order of the Friars Minor is also sculpted on the main door: "Charitas".
San Francesco di Paola church is located on via Garibaldi, in the district of Castello.
